Equipment

  • Matcha Whisk
  • Matcha Bowl (or any rounded bowl)

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon matcha (see notes)
  • 1 cup oat milk, plain and unsweetened, or more to taste
  • Sweetener of choice, to taste
  • Handful Ice

Instructions

  • Add the matcha (sifted if possible) to a matcha bowl, along with approximately 1/4 cup of warm water. You can warm it using a kettle or saucepan, but make sure to remove it from heat before it boils.
  • Whisk the matcha by moving the matcha whisk back and forth, until no clumps remain and the matcha is frothy.
  • Add a handful of ice and the oat milk to a glass. Pour the whisked matcha on top and stir to combine. Taste and add sweetener if desired.

Notes

I recommend using ceremonial matcha for the best quality, color and flavor. That being said, ceremonial matcha is more expensive than regular culinary matcha. Use what fits in your budget. I enjoy both, but find that I need to add a bit more sweetener to the culinary matcha to compensate for the added bitterness.
If you love a stronger matcha flavor, you can add more matcha if preferred. If you're new to matcha and/or prefer a lighter matcha flavor, start with 1/2-3/4 teaspoon.
Oat milk is naturally a little sweet, but I love to add a small amount of maple syrup for extra sweetness. Honey would also work if you're not vegan. If you want to use dates, I recommend checking out this recipe for a blender iced matcha latte.
